T-cell leukemia is an aggressive cancer that often returns after chemotherapy because the protein STAT5 helps cancer cells survive.

Johnathon Lucas is studying cellular processes to uncover new, safer, and less toxic therapies to treat T-cell leukemia.

T-cell leukemia comes back after treatment in 1 in 5 children and 3 in 5 adults. More than half of T-cell leukemia cases involve cellular processes that STAT5 controls.

Targeting the cellular pathways regulated by STAT5 will have a major impact on treating these leukemias.
